Burlington Choral Society -- Solomon by George Frederic Handel
The Burlington Choral Society, under the direction of Artistic Director Richard Riley, will perform the oratorio, “Solomon,” composed by George Frederic Handel, in 1748. Full 30-piece orchestra and 90+ voice chorus.
Soloists:
Sopranos: Mary Bonhag and Elizabeth Sutphen
Countertenor: Eric Jurenas
Tenor: Adam Hall
Bass: Erik Kronc of the BCSke
This larger-than-life oratorio, written at the height of Handel’s fame as an oratorio composer, tells the tale of King Solomon, his famous divisive ruling and his infatuation with the visiting Queen of Sheba. It is rarely performed due to the significant scale of the piece. The BCS will bring this vivid piece to life with the Burlington Chamber Orchestra, five soloists covering eight named roles, and 8-part 90+ voice chorus. Due to it's size, scope and required personnel, this may the only time most Vermonters will have a chance to hear this huge masterwork.
Tickets are $25 for adults and $20 for seniors and students at the door; in advance through www.flynntix.org or 802-863-5966.
Saturday, November 22, 2014, 7:30 PM, Elley-Long Music Center at Saint Michael’s College, Colchester, Vermont.
