Thermal Energy Networks - Thurs, Oct 10th at 5:00 PM at the Manchester Community Library
If you're like me, you probably never heard of Thermal Energy Networks.
I recently learned what they are, how much money could be saved, how much wasted heat energy could be recovered, and how they can play a role in helping switch to renewables from fossil fuel. So now I'm excited about them. Read on to learn why.
You've probably heard of geothermal heat; using the constant ground temperature, rather than air temperature, to heat or cool your home (or business, or school). Some Thermal Energy Networks (TENs) use geothermal systems that are shared between buildings with different heating or cooling needs.
Thermal Energy Networks can also capture existing heat from things like the compressors at the ice skating rink, or the frozen food section of a supermarket. TENs can also capture heat that goes down the drain from a shower (which often has 120+ degree water), a washing machine, or anything else that sends heated water down the drain.
The more buildings that are linked to a shared system, the more affordable and efficient it gets.
This Thursday - Oct 10 - at 5:00 PM, Debbie New, of Vermont Community Thermal Networks (vctn.org), has agreed to come to the library in Manchester to explain how these TENs work, and how to implement one in our area. Debbie will be joined by her engineer, Jared Rodriguez, of Community Decarbonization Partners, who can explain the mechanics of the systems, and where they could work in Manchester.
This is truly a unique opportunity to learn about an amazing, but little known, technology. The presentation will be from 5:00 to 6:00 PM. If your time is limited, or you're starving, you can leave then. From 6:00 to 6:30, Jared and Debbie graciously agreed to address specific ideas or questions about your school, business, housing project, hotel, etc.
This is a free presentation, brought to you by the Manchester Energy Committee, to help expand your knowledge of cutting edge developments in heating and cooling. Our mission is to help the Town and residents save money by consuming less energy. Co-sponsored by Earth Matters Manchester.
Come to the Manchester Community Library this Thursday, October 10th, at 5:00 PM.
Be prepared to be entertained and enlightened. You'll be glad you did.
