Mark your calendars for NEKO's 2024 Membership Assembly! Northeast Kingdom Organizing (NEKO) will host its annual Membership Assembly on October 12, from 10am - 3pm at the Barton Hub in the Barton Memorial Building at 17 Village Square in the village.
NEKO's Membership Assembly is the highest decision making body of our organization, where each grassroots member discusses, debates, and votes on priorities for the Kingdom's future. Consider it a NEK-wide Town Meeting Day, where we come together to self-govern democratically and make the decisions that will impact our lives.
The Membership Assembly is an opportunity for NEKO members and non-members to reflect on NEKO's work and brainstorm solutions and actionable steps for housing, flood recovery, and social connection in the Kingdom. This year, we take a look at our housing platform, the People's Demands for Just Flood Recovery, and plans for community hubs that build resilience in the face of disaster. NEKO membership is based on residency or employment within the Northeast Kingdom. You do not have to be a member to join us at the Assembly!
There will be multiple facilitators, including Martha Caswell from University of Vermont's Institute for Agroecology, Lena Greenberg from Community Resilience Organizations, and members of NEKO leadership.
Join us to strategize and win:
- Affordability for rural, working class Vermonters
- Housing for all
- Transportation for all
- Thriving community hubs and public spaces
Elections for NEKO's Executive Council will be held. Any person interested in running for NEKO's Executive Council should send a statement of intent to run to organizing@nekorganizing.org.
Free breakfast and lunch will be provided. After Party at the Lake House Saloon, Barton.
