Join us on Friday, October 4th - for the closing reception of "Watercolor Diary: Three Years in Vermont", an exhibit from artist Anna Yakubovskaya of St. Johnsbury. VNRC is proud to display Anna's work as part of Montpelier Art Work, and we hope many of you will pop in between 4:30 and 7:30 pm to view the exhibit, enjoy some light refreshments, and maybe even buy a print (100% of proceeds go to the artist).
Anna's vibrant watercolor and silk paintings represent an exploration and celebration of her journey as a new Vermonter. Originally from St. Petersburg, Russia, Anna moved to the United States in 1997, and found her way to St. Johnsbury in 2021. Her work captures the essence of our unique Vermont landscapes and cityscapes - and includes a few depictions of Montpelier itself.
As Anna writes: "Today, I mainly work in two mediums—watercolor and silk painting. These techniques resemble each other in that they both require a certain fearlessness, as well as a trust for the material, in order to strike a balance between the intentional and the spontaneous. Exploring one often helps me find a new freedom, or lightness, in the other...I still wonder why exactly I create—what my mission is, if I even must have one? Today I would say that it is not necessarily to create beauty, but rather to capture, draw attention to, or translate in my own way the abundance of beauty that is around us. It is what nourishes me, and hopefully touches others."
This will be the final public viewing for the exhibit, so don't miss your chance to see "Watercolor Diary: Three Years in Vermont" on display right here in Montpelier. We're located at this historic Gibson residence, winner of VGBN's Greenest Building Award (Commercial) in 2022 and right down the block from the State House. Make sure venue #21 is on your Art Walk itinerary - in October and always!
