This Saturday, October 5, 9 am to 3 pm, there will be a sale of vintage and antique books at the East Calais Recreation Center. This sale, hosted by the Calais Historical Society, includes many rare books, containing unusual illustrations and maps. Some are leather-bound, and gold embossed. There are extraordinary large antique family and community bibles, with gold leafed leather bindings and brass hinges and clasps. Some books are inscribed or dedicated. Special interest books include readers, grammars and arithmetic books used in local schools in the early 1900s, some of which include drawings, doodles, penmanship practice and other notes made by the students. Other special interest books include a large selection of books about exploration, geography and history. Many biographies, especially of presidents and notable literary figures.
Antique dealers welcome.
Who knows? Perhaps your next theater production needs these lovely old books as props!
Many items $1 or free. Come early, see the collection, and view a Calais quilt and Calais Civil War artifacts too.
