The Huntington Public Library is sponsoring the second Nature Literacy program of the season — Ethan Tapper will be talking about his new book, HOW TO LOVE A FOREST: THE BITTERSWEET WORK OF TENDING A CHANGING WORLD
Ethan's knowledge of the forest is deep and rich, covering geological time before humans were on the scene, the first people who cared for the forest, all the way to what's happening now with the climate changing. In sharing his vision of a healthy forest as a world of infinite connections and relationships that are always changing, he encourages us all to work to understand more about forest health, vibrancy, resilience, and to make informed and sometimes difficult, even heart-breaking choices.
Ethan weaves in his own history, his insights, and hopes for the future in caring for his own parcel of Vermont forest, taking us through seasons, climate events, unfortunate and costly man-made misjudgments over time, and how he is bringing it back to health over his lifetime and beyond.
This book is fascinating as a story unfolding and at the same time an excellent class in forest management.
