There is an important question being placed on the November General Election ballot for the Town of Berlin residents. "Shall the Town of Berlin form a Municipal Fire Department and acquire the assets and liabilities of the Berlin Volunteer Fire Department Inc. into the municipality?"
The Berlin Volunteer Fire Department Inc. is a private corporation, primarily funded by the town and its taxpayers, but self-governed and ruled. The Corporation members perform various administrative duties such as preparing a yearly budget, prepping invoices to be paid, conducting meetings and producing minutes, and doing fundraisers, among other things. The Corporation members are also First Responders, who spend as much time as possible training and performing maintenance on the department buildings, trucks and equipment, in addition to responding to emergency calls.
The Corporation is in favor of this transition to a Municipal Fire Department and would appreciate your positive support as a town voter on this ballot item. There will be 2 public meetings about this vote Monday September 30th, 6:30PM at the Riverton Fire Station and Tuesday October 29th, 6:30PM at the 4 Corners Fire Station. Your presence and participation are welcomed.
