3rd Annual Money Matters Symposium: Exploring Solidarity Economics and Community-Based Banking FOR ALL THOSE WHO IDENTIFY AS WOMEN
Montpelier, VT –

On Friday, October 25th, 2024, the 3rd Annual Money Matters Symposium will be held at The Vermont College of Fine Arts Alumni Hall from 10 AM to 4 PM. This year's symposium, titled "Exploring Solidarity Economics and Community-Based Banking," will focus on economic community, connection, and inclusion.

Co-founded in 2022, the Money Matters Symposium was designed to provide a platform for those who identify as women to openly discuss money and explore strategies for financial empowerment. What began as an intimate gathering in 2022 has rapidly grown into a significant event within the community. This year, the symposium aims to triple last year's attendance and will feature Dr. Caroline Shenaz Hossein as keynote speaker.

Dr. Hossein is a professor of Global Development & Feminist Political Economics at University of Toronto, one of Canada's 100 Most Accomplished Black Canadian Women, author of the new book The Banker Ladies: Vanguards of Solidarity Economics and Community-Based Banks, and founder of the Diverse Solidarity Economies Collective.

Event Highlights: Participants will engage in discussions on topics including racialized economics, financial sovereignty, banking and equity, and consumer finances. The symposium will feature a panel of local, national, and internally renowned speakers in addition to Dr. Hossein, including: Shanda Williams: Owner and Visionary of S D Communications and Marketing Consulting Group LLC, BIPOC Community Advocate, Equity Strategist, and Reparations Activist.

Rickey Gard Diamond: Author of Screwnomics, Ms. columnist for Women Unscrewing Screwnomics, and founder of the educational nonprofit and feminist alliance, An Economy of Our Own.

These thought leaders will delve into how women can leverage their financial power, explore racialized economic systems, and discuss the intersections of banking and equity.
