Biomass: The Truth About Burning Wood

Sep 25, 2024, 4:30 to 6 PM

Earth Matters invites you to a presentation on the future of biomass in Vermont.

Cheryl Joy Lipton, from Chester, VT, is an Ecologist and Landscape Designer and a member of Standing Trees, Stop VT Biomass, and 350VT. Gene Kraus, from Bethel, VT is a retired UCC minister and former selectboard member. He is currently a member of the Ottauquechee Two Rivers Regional Planning Commission, the Bethel Planning Commission, the Bethel Energy Committee and the Bethel Equity and Inclusion Committee. Gene and Cheryl Joy are also on the Heating Sector Working Group of 350VT. They will discuss why continuing to cut our forests to produce electricity and to heat our buildings should not be in VT's Energy Plan. Community members, town decision-makers—Select Board members, Town Managers, Energy, Planning and Conservation Committee members, school board members— will have an opportunity to consider the downsides of wood combustion. Burning wood contributes to the climate crisis, reduces biodiversity, increases flooding and landslides and threatens ecosystem integrity.

Please join us on Wednesday, September 25, from 4:30-6:00pm at the Manchester Community Library.
