Join the Community Substance Use Response to save a life! On Sept. 26th, from 12-2:00, we will be providing free Narcan and training to any and all who want to carry this life saving, easy to use nasal spray.

"Save A Life Day East" is an unprecedented effort to train everyday people to be ready to save a life in case of an overdose emergency. The goal is to have the largest distribution of Narcan in one day in all states East of the Mississipi and it only takes 5 minutes to be trained.

Locations for "Save A Life Day" include Brattleboro (Pliny Park and the sidewalk across from the Food Co-op), Townshend (RiverBend Market), Wilmington (18 Beaver Street) and Bellows Falls at Parks Place (18 School St.), Greater Falls Chamber of Commerce (At the Waypoint Center), the Bellows Falls Police Department and Town Hall. All events are 12-2:00 except Wilmington which is 4-7:00.

Substance use affects everyone, and initiatives like this help empower all of us to take action and save lives. It's easy to think that substance use is other peoples' problem to solve, yet, carrying Narcan, a nasal spray that can quickly reverse an opioid overdose, is an easy way we can all be part of the solution. Narcan is easy to use without medical training and saves lives. It's safe, non-misusable, and will not harm someone who is not overdosing on opioids. CSUR partners have already begun distributing Narcan and training to local businesses, condo associations, restaurants, bars, churches, town halls and other locations throughout Windham County. Some hesitate to carry Narcan due to lack of knowledge or fear of liability. However, Vermont's Good Samaritan Law protects those who administer Narcan in good faith.

The Vermont Department of Health also encourages free distribution of Narcan and anyone can access free Narcan any day from CSUR (802) 275-7232, the AIDS Project of Southern Vermont (802) 254-8263,Turning Point of Windham County (802) 257-5600 and online at http://healthvermont.gov.
