Hyde Park Lighting Ceremony

The fourteenth annual Hyde Park Lighting Ceremony will take place Friday evening, December 5th at 7:00 p.m. at St. Teresa’s Parish Hall in Hyde Park village.

Residents and friends of Hyde Park are invited to purchase a light for the wreath in honor, memory or celebration of a loved one or a special event. There will be a gathering around the wreath and the names will be read as each light is lit. The village lights will be turned on as part of the ceremony. People can share in this part of the ceremony by remaining outside the Parish Hall when they first arrive. It is not necessary to purchase a light to participate. We encourage everyone to come to the Parish Hall to spend this important time in remembrance of those people in Hyde Park who have gone on before us; honoring people and events important to Hyde Parkers; and to celebrate family and community.

During the Lighting Ceremony, young children and their parents are invited to gather at the Lanpher Memorial Library at 7:00 p.m. for stories read by Frosty-the-Snowman, singing seasonal songs and making holiday crafts.

There will be celebratory music, hot chocolate and cookies served after the ceremony at St. Teresa’s for everyone. Bring a batch of cookies (if you have some you would like to share).

This event takes place, thanks in large part to the members of the Hyde Park Community Circle, who, for the last fifteen years have been offering opportunities for residents and friends of Hyde Park to interact with their neighbors. The Community Circle has been proactive in planning various activities throughout the year to prompt people to get together in hopes of creating the opportunity to reinforce an old-fashioned value, a sense of community. We would love to have more folks on the Community Circle, so if you would like to join in on the fun, contact Judy Clark at 888-4864.

To purchase a light, look for the order forms in the upcoming issue of the Transcript. This form will also be included in your October electric bill and with posters in various locations throughout Hyde Park and North Hyde Park. Please be sure to print clearly the name or event you would like recognized and your name and telephone number, sending the form to Deborah Henderson by November 28th. The Committee appreciates your effort in meeting the 28th deadline in order to decorate the wreath with enough bulbs and preparing the list for the readers in advance of the ceremony. See you on December 5th!
