Thursday, September 26th, 12-2:00 PM, Community Substance Use Response (CSUR) is providing a way for all of us to save lives in Windham County. "Save A Life Day East" is an unprecedented effort to train everyday people to be ready to save a life in case of an overdose emergency. The goal is to have the largest distribution of Narcan in one day in all states East of the Mississippi and it only takes 5 minutes to be trained.
Voices of Hope will be distributing FREE Narcan, souper supper, moment of remembrance and all recovery meeting for women. Chair massage, raffles, swag and fellowship. Please join us.
Substance use affects everyone, and initiatives like this help empower all of us to take action and save lives. It's easy to think that substance use is other peoples' problem to solve, yet, carrying Narcan, a nasal spray that can quickly reverse an opioid overdose, is an easy way we can all be part of the solution. Narcan is easy to use without medical training and saves lives. It's safe and will not harm someone who is not overdosing on opioids. CSUR partners have already begun distributing Narcan and training to local businesses, condo associations, restaurants, bars, churches, town halls and other locations throughout Windham County.
CSUR also works to inform the community about changing attitudes toward Narcan. More people recognize its importance in preventing overdose deaths. Some hesitate to carry Narcan due to lack of knowledge or fear of liability. However, Vermont's Good Samaritan Law protects those who administer Narcan in good faith. Training and distribution also reduce stigma and increase access to help.
