The spirit of the season will come to Cornwall on Sunday, November 30, when the Cornwall Congregational Church hosts a special 3 p.m. Advent celebration featuring renowned soprano Anneliese von Goerken.
Ms. von Goerken will perform a free program of seasonal music from many lands, with accompaniment from Charles Callahan, the Cornwall Church organist and choir director. Attendees will be welcome to deck the church with a traditional “Hanging of the Greens,” the ceremony that readies the sanctuary for Advent, the four weeks before Christmas when Christians are called to prepare themselves spiritually for the coming of Jesus.
People of all faiths—or none at all—are welcome as the Rev. Dr. Mary Kay Schueneman, pastor of the Cornwall Church, weaves historical background about Advent traditions into the program. There will be a special free-will offering taken for the Warming Shelter at the Charter House in Middlebury.
