The Holland Historical Society will showcase its mid-19th century landmark museum building and many artifacts during an open house Saturday, Sept. 21 from 1 to 4 p.m. at 693 Gore Road.
The event will include a hymn sing, also open to the public, from 1 to 2 p.m. Visitors can participate in, or observe, the hymn sing while also looking at the society's wide-ranging collection. Light refreshments will be served.
"We hope people will come and experience the history of our town," said Karon Thibault, society president.
The historical society's museum is located in the former West Holland Congregational Church, built in 1854, and also includes adjacent structures. The site is on a hillside that offers wide-ranging views of the surrounding rural landscape.
Listed on the National Registry of Historic Sites, the former church building has stained glass windows, wooden pews and a balcony.
The collection includes farm equipment, furniture, personal household items, family portraits, old signs and many other items from Holland's past.
The Holland Historical Society was founded in 1972-73 and works to preserve the town's past. Founding members were determined to save the church structure, which was donated to the society for use as a museum.
