In honor of Ilsley Public Library's 100th birthday, Toad Hall Flower Farm will host a community-built floral display to festoon the library's front entrance. The flowers will flow under the railings, down the front stairs and festoon the pillars.
We need community support to make this happen! We're asking folks to bring us cut flowers from their gardens on Wednesday Sept 18 from 3 pm – 5 pm at the Library's Community Meeting Room. We would be most grateful to everyone for these generous flower donations!
Any type of flower is most welcome. Here are suggestions:
Amaranth
Cosmos
Calendula
Dahlias
Hydrangeas (dry or fresh)
Marigolds
Verbena
Zinnias - freshly opened or about-to-open
Here are techniques to keep cut flowers fresh for display:
Pick flowers in the morning, when the temperature is cooler.
Cut stems as long as possible (ideally 16 to 24 inches).
Strip all leaves except those closest to the flower so they don't contaminate the water.
Add a teaspoon of bleach to the pail of water to prevent bacteria from developing.
You can watch short instructional videos about how to cut flowers at https://www.ilsleypubliclibrary.org/flowers/.
