Friends and neighbors,
Hyde Park fifth graders invite friends and family to join us for our Thanksgiving celebration in the school woods. Fifth graders participate in outdoor science education called Educating Children Outdoors (ECO) every Wednesday morning, 9-11:15. We have thoroughly explored our forest ecosystem this fall, mapping out the interdependent relationships between all living things. We will celebrate with an outdoor Thanksgiving, complete with fire-roasted apples, popcorn and bread-on-a-stick.
The Hyde Park community is welcome to join us next Wednesday, November 19, 9am-11:15am, to play games, sing songs and share fire-cooked snacks. Sign in at the front office and meet us in the gym by 9am, to head down the hill to the forest. Wear warm clothing and sturdy shoes, please!
You will see the much-improved trail (work done by last year's 5th and 6th graders), the new bridges (thanks to volunteer Emmons Pirie and local businesses/organizations) and the hand-hewn wooden balance beams/benches built from scratch by last year's ECO students.
Lately I have heard an outpouring of appreciation for our school's forest property. Please join us to celebrate the beautiful natural space that Hyde Park Elementary School enjoys.
