League of Women Voters Hosts Governor Candidate Forum

The League of Women Voters of Vermont (LWVVT) will host an in-person Candidate Forum for the office of Vermont's Governor on Saturday, September 21 at the Fletcher Free Library in the Fletcher Room, 235 College Street, Burlington from 2:30 to 4 pm. A meet-and-greet is scheduled for 2 to 2:30 pm. The event will also be live streamed on CCTV at https://www.cctv.org/live_events.

The five candidates invited to participate in the Forum are Esther Charlestin (Democrat --https://www.estherforvt.com/), Phil Scott (participation is pending, Republican -- https://www.philscott.org/), June Goodband (Green Mountain Peace and Justice -- https://greenmountainpeaceandjusticeparty.org/?page_id=1148), Kevin Hoyt (Independent), and Eli "Poa" Mutino (Independent -- https://www.poamutinoforvermont.com/). Tom McKone, former Executive Director of the Kellogg-Hubbard Library, will serve as moderator.

The Governor of Vermont is the head of Vermont government, is charged to uphold and execute all laws and expedite legislative business as needed; has limited powers to grant pardons and reprieves and the power to call special sessions of the VT General Assembly when necessary; is the commander-in-chief of the naval and militia forces; and commissions all officers of the state.

This Candidate Forum is the first of many planned forums to help voters make decisions in the November general election. Candidate forums are being planned for the Lt. Governor and select Vermont Senate races.

The Forum is sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Vermont, Fletcher Free Library, and CCTV. The League of Women Voters regularly sponsors candidate forums or debates as part of its mission of encouraging informed and active participation in government.
