The Public Is Invited to Comment

The Vermont Department of Financial Regulation (DFR) is currently conducting a study to ensure business practices of auto insurance companies in Vermont are fair and reasonable. As part of the study, DFR is gathering information on labor rates, the use of aftermarket parts, market conditions and other business practices.

To inform the study, DFR is hosting a hybrid in-person and virtual public event from 4 to 5 pm on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, to hear from consumers regarding auto repair insurance issues.

Vermont Auto Insurance Consumers - Let your voices be heard!

The Department seeks consumer input as to their experiences with automobile insurance claims for damage to, and repair of, your vehicle. Specifically, the Department wants to learn about your experiences and perceptions related to:
• The damage assessment and appraisal process.
• The timeliness of insurer response.
• Who determined which repairs were necessary.
• Disagreements on necessary repairs and how those disagreements were resolved.
• The use of Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) and Non-Original Equipment. Manufacturer (Aftermarket) parts in the repair.
• Labor rates charged by the repair shop versus rates allowed by the insurer.
• Whether your claim was subject to "Betterment" adjustments.
