Past event
Sep 10, 6 PM to 11:59 PM, Sep 11, 2024

In memory of those who lost their lives and were impacted by the 9/11 terrorist attacks, Norwich University will be hosting several opportunities for reflection throughout the day on September 11, 2024.

The U.S. flag will be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Wednesday, September 11, performed by the Regimental Drill Company. Beginning at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 10, Norwich's Political Science Club (POLITEIA), will plant nearly 3,000 small U.S. flags on the north end of the Upper Parade Ground. Community members are encouraged to view them and take a moment to reflect.

Seniors in the Corps of Cadets will march vigil tours, a solemn tour marched under arms at a slow ceremonial pace, across the north section of the Upper Parade Ground for 24 hours beginning at midnight on September 11.

At 10:00 p.m., the Corps of Cadets commanded by C/COL Sophia M. Righthouse, NU '25, will conduct a Remembrance Ceremony. This ceremony is an opportunity for the campus community to solemnly show respect and honor those impacted and fallen by a national tragedy. The Corps of Cadets will silently form on the UP rendering respect. Two buglers from our Regimental Band will perform echo Taps, and the NU Pipes and Drum unit will conclude with Amazing Grace.

Norwich and Northfield community members are welcome to attend the ceremony. We ask all attendees to arrive at the Upper Parade Ground by 9:50 p.m. and assemble adjacent to Jackman Hall, and remain quiet and respectful throughout the ceremony. The Cadet Public Affairs Staff will capture this ceremony via Facebook live; visit Norwich University Families | Facebook
