Dark Tales and Hard-luck Ballads from folkteller Tim Jennings and music trio Sanctuary Mutts
This will be the next to last chance to hear the Mutts (Tim concertina & vocals, Grant Orenstein guitar, Dave Gaillard standup bass) until next summer, as Dave will be leaving at the end of September for winter quarters.
Half of the show will be folktales, including a ghost story Tim tried to tell unsuccessfully for 20 years, before getting this fail-safe version from a 5th grader in Chester Vermont during the mid-eighties. Also, the one about God, the Devil, Death and a whole chicken, from a Mexican ESL student in Chicago at about the same time, a puerile children's faux-scary story, the first tale Tim and Leann learned to tell together, and probably one more.
Half of the show will be music, featuring old ballads, new ballads, instrumentals, and a bunch thorny westerns, all with a strong Friday the 13th tinge. Not a kids' show! Come if you can.
