Posting this for my friend, Dinah Yessne:
We're having an INDOOR MOVING SALE Friday & Saturday, September 14 & 15th, at the former Shortt Schoolhouse in Calais. The Schoolhouse, at the corner of Lightening Ridge Road and George Road in Adamant, was established in 1820 for the children from the Slayton, Shortt and Converse families. By around 1840 it served 32 pupils. Constructed in the Greek Revival vernacular, it served as a schoolhouse for 101 years until closed in 1921. The original rafters and most spaces have been retained and a new version of the south facing windows constructed.
The sale features items from every room in the house as well as from an outdoor shed. Items include extensive book and record collections; original art, political posters and photos; mid-century Red Wing and Ralph Wright pottery; antique furniture and furnishings: a TV that also plays VHS and DVD films; everything from a Russian samovar to colorful Mexican animal carvings, old skis and boots; blankets and quilts; lots of puzzles and other odds and ends less interesting but useful nonetheless. 1487 Lightening Ridge Road, 10 AM-4PM both days. This is your opportunity to see inside the Shortt Schoolhouse and pick up a few things to take home while you're at it!
