Did you know that:
1. The Boys and Girls Club of Rutland County (BGCRC) is providing after-school programs in 23 locations across the county during the 2024-2025 school year (four years ago there were only 2 locations). These include the following towns in our local area: Castleton, Fair Haven, Benson, Orwell, Poultney and West Rutland.
2. In the Slate Valley school system, which includes Castleton, Fair Haven, Benson and Orwell, the final school budget that passed does not include funding for after-school programs. This means that parents must pay for their children to attend after-school programs. Some grant money is available, but it is crucial for BGCRC to receive financial support from local individuals and businesses to provide the necessary resources for these after-school programs
3. Afterschool programs support social, emotional, cognitive, and academic development, reduce risky behaviors, promote physical health, and provide a safe and supportive environment for children. Studies show that children attending after-school programs improve their grades and test scores. The fact that these programs also enable working parents to manage busy work schedules makes them truly Win-Win.
It is the goal of BGCRC that no family is turned away due to their ability to pay. Please help make this goal a reality by supporting our annual fundraising event scheduled for Sept. 26th at the Bomoseen Lodge. You can attend this fun event, bid on the online silent auction items and/or just make a donation. Information on this event and how to support BGCRC is available through the following link:
