Celebrate Signing of the US Constitution

On September 17, 1787, at 4 pm east coast time, the Continental Congress began signing the Constitution of the United States of America. When the delegates emerged, from what is now known as Independence Hall in Philadelphia, all the churches across the new America rang their bells to celebrate the signing. To this day, this historic event is celebrated by the ringing of bells at 4 pm from coast to coast for one full minute.

Please join the St. John de Crevecoeur Chapter from St. Johnsbury, VT, the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Hardwick Academy Class of 1970 as we celebrate the signing of the Constitution of the United States of America by ringing the Hardwick Academy bell at Hardwick's Memorial Park for one full minute on September 17 at 4 pm.

The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) is a women's service organization whose members can trace their lineage to an individual who contributed to securing American independence during the Revolutionary War. Today's DAR is dynamic and diverse, with over 185,000 members in 3,000 chapters in the United States and abroad. DAR members annually provide millions of hours of volunteer service to their local communities across the country and world. DAR chapters participate in projects to promote historic preservation, education, and patriotism. Over one million members have joined the organization since its founding in 1890.
