Our next meeting is September 4th at 6pm at the District Office, 577 Dorset Street. There is also a virtual option available and a link for that can be found at the top of the agenda, or the "Event URL" on this post.
We will have the Rick Marcotte Central School Street Naming Committee in attendance to share with us what the street leading to the RMCS will be named! They will share with us not only what they have decided but how the process worked. This has been an excellent civic engagement lesson for our RMCS students.
At our next meeting we will discuss several topics that may be of interest to you. Topics including the new Finance Committee which will play a pivotal role in sharing the most up-to-date information regarding the school budget, advocating with the state about the education funding model, and helping to educate voters about the school budget- because it is complicated!
We are discussing cell phones in schools and will discuss a timeline about whether or not South Burlington should adopt a district wide policy regarding cell phones. If you'd like to share your thoughts there will be time for public comment on the matter. You may also learn about more opportunities to share your thoughts on the matter when we discuss the timeline.
Please remember that board meetings are meetings in front of the public, not meetings with the public and thus public comments during meetings should be kept to 2-3 minutes. The listening sessions that we hope to hold monthly are another way to share information with the board and are intended to be places for longer form comments, or you are always encouraged to email us at schoolboard@sbschools.net
We hope to see you there, or hear from you via email!
Be well,
Chelsea Tillinghast, Chair
