Research shows writing postcards is extremely effective, maybe the most effective strategy, to increase voter turnout. A handwritten postcard arriving in the mail makes it through the messaging clutter and is noticed. The resulting increase to voter turnout may be small but still significant, especially in tight races. Third Act Orange County is hosting writing parties locally throughout the summer and fall. We provide the addresses and materials: your contribution to help cover the cost of stamps is greatly appreciated.
Where & when:
Baldwin Library, Wells River: 10:00-11:00 am, on 1st & 3rd Mondays through October. Next meeting Sep. 16.
Tenney Library, Newbury: 10:00-11:00 am, on 2nd and 4th Tuesdays through October. Next meeting Sep. 10.
The address lists, provided by two national organizations, are drawn from public voting records. This is a coordinated national effort, with evidence-based messages focusing on voters in places where elections will be close. You can make a difference!
Third Act is a community of Americans over sixty focusing on climate and democracy. Learn more at thirdact.org, or call 802 505-5281. Everyone is welcome to take part in the writing parties, you don't have to be over 60!
