Come meet with Ivor Hughes on October 3rd and hear about his book "Before We Went Wireless"
Ivor, originally from Liverpool, UK grew up during the Beatles pop group era, went to school near Penny Lane and cycled home past Strawberry Fields. He went on to received a degree in electronic engineering and initially was employed in the telephone communications field, later switching to aerospace. This led to an opportunity in the US and he and his wife emigrated in the late 1960's taking up residence in Connecticut, where he was employed at United Technologies. Several years later an employment opportunity came up in Vermont at Simmonds Precision/Collins Aerospace in Vergennes, and having skied and hiked in Vermont for a number of years and enjoying the Vermont way of life, they moved up here with their two children.
At Simmonds Precision/Collins Aerospace he was employed as an electronic system designer of products for the aerospace industry. He holds a number of patents and awards, as well as having traveling world wide in connection with his employment.
After his retirement Ivor was able to devote more time to his interests in the history of technology and specifically Telegraph and Wireless. His extensive research and presentations in this field led to him writing the award winning book " Before we went Wireless".
He is a member of the Green Mountain Club and enjoys hiking and backpacking and is a long time player and fan of Volleyball and a coach of Youth Volleyball.
