On Friday, September 6th we will visit the Great Falls Discovery Center on the Connecticut River in historic Turners Falls, Massachusetts. The Center is housed in a complex of old mill buildings on four acres of lawn and gardens. The front entrance displays layers of rocks and fossils reflecting local geology. Our guide will lead us on the Canalside Rail Trail then to indoor exhibits of the natural, cultural, and industrial history of the Connecticut River watershed. Inside the main building, exquisite dioramas show the plants, animals, and landscapes present along the meandering 410-mile-long Connecticut River.
Our tour begins at the Discovery Center at 10:30 am. We plan to carpool at the Guilford Community Church at 9:30 am. For those who wish to drive directly, travel directions are on the Discovery Center's website, http://www.greatfallsdiscoverycenter.org.
This will be an easy walk, accessible to all levels and needs.
