The Waterbury-Stowe Fish and Game Club is offering a hunter safety class beginning September 10, 2024. The class is a combination of the home study course and our traditional in-person class.
The home study section of the course requires students to complete the online course or the workbook that accompanies the class manual. This is no small undertaking – expect to spend 20 hours completing the work.
The online hunter safety course can be found here: https://www.hunter-ed.com/vermont/
To request a manual and workbook contact the Hunter Education program at 802-828-1193 or email them at Huntereducation@vermont.gov
The in-person section of the course will focus on hands-on training with actual firearms as well as group discussions concerning ethical considerations and personal responsibilities for new hunters.
Students are required to pass a written test on the field day as well as demonstrate safe firearms handling in the woods as well as safe shooting at the rifle range.
All students are required to display maturity, responsibility, and firearm safety throughout the class. All sections of the course are pass/fail at the discretion of the instructors.
Class materials are written at the 6th grade level. Although students of any age are allowed to take the course, students age 10 and older are more successful.
