This is a follow-up & addition to Marsh's post on Saturday regarding how you can help keep our Earth just a wee bit cleaner by volunteering at next Saturday's Garlic Town at one of the compost & recycle tables.
It's a yuuge big deal to prevent up to half of the anticipated throw-outs from going into the garbage, instead turning it into useful compost & recycling the rest. But just as, if not more important, you'll have a tremendous opportunity to educate people who have no clue about recycling & composting (we get a lot of out-of-towners!). Gobs of them never knew that undyed paper napkins, wooden toothpicks & eating utensils, & undyed paper plates can go into compost. If it's made from a plant, it composts.
Some who never recycled before, after seeing our efforts to sort & recycle their waste, have said they'll begin to do it at home.
If you can educate one person about the joys of composting & change another's mind about the necessity of recycling, your day will be made! (And strongly encourage them to tell their family, friends, & neighbors!)
You'll have a partner with whom you'll work & there are always laughs & stories & you meet scores of people from different states with their own stories to share.
