7PM. Matewan is the next film in the Classic Film Series on November 15 at the community center. John John Sayles superb period drama is set in the 20's era West Virginia coal mining community of Matewan. Sayles meticulous script manifests the stark social influences of government, corporation,religion, race and personal struggles pervading the Appalachian region at the time. The film stars Chris Cooper, James Earl Jones and David Strathaim. Cinematographer Haskell Weller contributes greatly to the look and feel of a truly special cinematic achievement.
