In recent years, many of my favorite dramatic performances at Phantom Theater feature the versatile Northfield actor, Maren Langdon Spillane, and one of Vermont's most respected directors, Joanne Greenberg. From "Constellations" to "Time Stands Still" their collaborations on contemporary plays always go deep into the joys and struggles of ordinary lives.
This weekend there are three chances to check out their new venture, "Cry It Out" by Molly Smith Metzler, known for her work on "Orange Is the New Black." The play shines a sharp but comic light on young motherhood and female friendship, highlighting the difficult choices many women must make between self fulfillment, maternal desire and economic reality. For anyone who's been in that position (which includes pretty much every woman I know) it's familiar territory made new with crackerjack dialogue and an excellent ensemble cast.
Tickets for 8:00 performances this Thursday, Friday and Saturday night are available in advance at phantomtheater.org or at the door.
