Please join the Montpelier Chamber Orchestra for an exciting concert!
Piano virtuoso Diane Huling will join the Montpelier Chamber Orchestra (MCO) in concert at the Montpelier Unitarian Church on Saturday, November 15 at 7:30 pm, and Sunday, November 16 at 4:00 pm, featuring works by Beethoven and Wagner.
The program will open with Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 5 in E-Flat, widely referred to as the Emperor Concerto. First performed in 1811, it was Beethoven’s last piano concerto. He dedicated it to his student, friend and patron, Archduke and subsequently, Cardinal Rudolf von Habsburg-Lothringen.
The MCO will conclude with Wagner’s Siegfried Idyll – a piece he composed secretly as a birthday present for his second wife, Cosima, after the birth of their son, Siegfried. On Christmas morning 1870, Cosima awoke to the music being played by a small ensemble on the steps of the couple’s Swiss villa. The composition reveals the little-known tender and romantic side of Wagner and is thought to have had great personal significance to the couple.
