The seventh annual Brick Church Music Series, held at the Old Brick Church in Williston, is presenting it’s second performance of the season on Friday evening, November 14th. Headlining the evening will be Patti Casey and Colin McAffrey.
Patti is known as a prolific songwriter and has perfected her own New England-flavored bluegrassy style, one that shines equally with welcome, familiar sounds as well as undeniable originality. Her career has taken her to many places along the way: she has appeared live on “A Prairie Home Companion” with Garrison Keillor, has won Texas’s prestigious Kerrville Folk Festival New Folk Songwriter’s Competition, and was a winner of the Chris Austin Songwriting Contest at the legendary Merlefest in Wilkesboro, North Carolina as well as at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival’s Troubadour songwriters contest.
Colin's songwriting and playing are rooted in folk and American forms. He fuses bluegrass, country, folk, zydeco, and roots rock into a regional hybrid. Seven Days calls his music a "perfectly balanced, beautiful sounding bluegrass/folk record packed with high quality songs and high caliber musicianship."
The opening act will be 'Duncan Yandell and Dylan Hudson' who will be playing some traditional and contemporary Cape Breton fiddle tunes.
The Brick Church Music Series focuses on bringing great art and music to the historic Brick Church while working with non-profit organizations to help raise funds for their worthwhile missions. Proceeds from this concert will benefit the Williston Food Shelf.
The evening’s visual artist is Erika White. Erika is a Williston artist who also teaches art at Shelburne Community School. Her artwork encompasses aspects of painting, collage, and printmaking. Imagery from the natural world as well as patterns and embellishments from other cultures make their way into her playful work. She works on both canvas and paper depending on the goal of the piece
Doors open at 6:00 p.m. for a 7:00 p.m. show. Tickets are $12 in advance – on-line or at the Williston town office - or $14 at the door ($10/$12 for children under 12 and seniors).
