On Saturday, August 17 at 9:00 am, the Walloomsac River and Downtown Walk will celebrate the changes along the Riverwalk and the richness that the first year's unsung heroes and supporting organizations have given to our community. In 2023, the walk began recognizing individuals who have quietly gone above and beyond on behalf of the community with an Unsung Hero Award. The pictures of the first year's recipients will be included in the Saturday, August 17, 2024 edition of the Bennington Banner.
The recipients of the Unsung Hero Award in our first year include Walt Carroll, Shawn Pratt, Grace Winslow, Pam and John Santarcangelo, Darlene Cumm, John Rogers, Spencer Jarrett, Cindy and Marsh Hudson-Knapp, Geoff Metcalfe, Al Bashevkin, Michael McDonough, Bruce Smith, and Dean Hanson. Bennington is grateful to these wonderful individuals.
As part of a collaboration between the Better Bennington Corporation (BBC) and the North Bennington Outdoor Sculpture Show (NBOSS), participants will be able to view five sculptures along the walk.
The August walk will begin at 9 AM at the Rotary/Bennington Station Park on Depot Street between Main Street and River Street. Walloomsac Walks take place on the third Saturday of each month. Please note that the walks begin at 9:00 a.m. from June through October and return to 10:00 a.m. from November through March.
The walks are pet-friendly, and people of all ages are invited to come out and enjoy this ongoing community event. In the case of inclement weather, cancellation notices will be placed on the Front Porch Forum and the Bennington Blotter.
