Continuing its 30th anniversary celebration, the Duxbury Land Trust (DLT) is offering a FREE, woodland plants walk.
Exploring Duxbury's Town Forest, we plan to discover native ferns and flowers along the rustic paths with a UVM faculty member as our guide. Dr. Monique McHenry will discuss leaves and fruit of spring ephemerals, spores of ferns, and late summer blooms that we encounter as we enjoy the wildlands in Duxbury. Be prepared to walk on rough terrain and in brushy areas.
Monique McHenry, PhD is a Botanist with a background in plant diversity and evolution. She is an assistant professor of Pharmacology at UVM's Larner College of Medicine. She also serves as the Director of the Medical Cannabis Center for Research and Education and teaches several classes at UVM in both Pharmacology and Plant Biology Departments. Dr. McHenry completed her BA and MSc at the University of Colorado and her PhD at the University of Vermont.
Participants will have the opportunity to visit Duxbury's Town Forest, the 169-acre town-owned property conserved by the Duxbury Land Trust since 2017. The DLT's conservation easement stipulates the permitted uses to ensure conservation of the Forest in perpetuity. Allowed uses include: hiking, cross country skiing, nature study, snowshoeing, forestry, and hunting,
A one-time parking area has been offered to accommodate this event since adequate public parking is not yet available at the forest. Registration by Thursday, August 22nd is necessary to ensure transport to the site and participation is limited. Participants will be advised of the meeting location upon registration.
