Sarah Haskell, an award-winning artist from York, Maine, will introduce the Mandala Community Weaving project and the historical and cultural connections of the Mandala. Our evening will highlight how the Heritage Winooski Mill Museum and local participants will create our own Mandala visually expressing history, community, and the environment this upcoming September.
The Mandala Community Weaving, created and designed by Sarah Haskell, has been presented to audiences of all ages and abilities. As a visual symbol of community, the project grows from the spirit of the group that creates it. From the colors of the weaving, to the representations of people, to the shapes of woven areas, to the texture of the weaving, the completed Mandala Community Weaving is a true celebration of each individual and the community that they call home.
Sarah Haskell has exhibited at museums and galleries and has been published in FiberArt Now magazine. She is a member of the American Craft Council and the Surface Design Association. She is a 2021 Maine Artist Fellow. Sarah teaches textile workshops that build community and raise self-esteem, for all ages and abilities of learners, in schools and communities from California to Maine. More info on Sarah Haskell can be found here.
