Essex Community Historical Society Tales and Treasures Program: "History of Stonewalls in Vermont" with speaker: Karyn Norwood.
Perhaps one of the most emblematic representatives of Vermont's cultural landscape of the past and the present is the dry-laid stone wall--today found delineating the historic traditions of Vermont along dirt roads and in the woods, or, just as often, defining the edge of the modern lawn. There is a story behind every stone wall in Vermont, past or present, that one may encounter--and a new story made through every encounter. In this talk, we learn about the stories behind some of Vermont's historic and modern stonewalls.
