The Red Cross is facing an emergency blood shortage and urges people to make an appointment to give now to help patients receive lifesaving medical treatments.

Overall, the Red Cross national blood supply has fallen by more than 25% since July 1. Blood product distributions to hospitals are outpacing the number of blood donations coming in, which is rapidly drawing down the blood supply.

Blood cannot be manufactured or stockpiled and can only be made available through the kindness of volunteer donors.
