Free Family Fun Event-“JUST PLAY? NO WAY!”

Play prepares a young brain for life, love, and even schoolwork. To celebrate the benefits of play, Rutland Building Bright Futures (BBF) is holding a Free Family Fun Time Community Event-“JUST PLAY? NO WAY!” Saturday, November 15th-10am until Noon at the Godnick Adult Center on 1 Deer Street, Rutland.

This year’s theme is “Highlighting Healthy Brain Development in Young Children through Play”.
Susanne Engels, Principal of Northeast Elementary School will kick off the event with opening remarks.
Stations will be set up featuring lots of creative hands on activities involving art, music, reading, exercise, health, and nutrition. Snacks (some of which are donated by Cabot Cheese, Champlain Orchards and Westminster Cracker Co.) and beverages will be provided in addition to door prize giveaways. Parents, Families, and Community Members are encouraged to attend.

Community Information will be available from local organizations and businesses participating in the event such as Rutland County Starting Points Network, Rutland County Parent Child Center, Rutland County Head Start, Vermont Achievement Center, Vermont Department of Health, Wonderfeet Kids Museum, Vermont Start with the Arts, Rutland Free Library, Wellness for Life, Children’s Integrated Services (CIS), BROC Community Action in Southwestern Vermont, and Vermont Birth through Three.

Here are interesting facts to consider: 80 percent of a child’s brain develops in the first three years of life building the foundation for future success. Beginning at birth, the brain is rapidly forming 700-1000 connections every second, building connections for future learning in cognitive, social, and emotional development. Basic interactions like reading, playing, and talking create strong positive connections in the growing brain and help create a strong foundation.
