The United Church of Lincoln (UCOL) has had the privilege of being involved with, and helping to financially support, the children and adults at L'Orphelinat Notre-Dame du Perpetual Secours Orphanage since 2010. Father Jonel Bourdeau, with seemingly impossible odds, has continuously cared for, nurtured, educated, and planned for the needs of displaced Haitian children.
Father Bourdeau, two staff members, and 12 children were recently forced to leave their new and repaired orphanage due to violence and continuing civil unrest in Port au Prince. Expenses for every day needs of food, clothing, supplies, and education are ongoing and continue to rise. The orphanage provides K-6 classes and helps to fund secondary school. Nine students will attend outside school this year. Monies raised from the walk, sponsored by the children at UCOL, will help pay for secondary education to support children rising above their current circumstances, helping Haiti to be a better place for all.
