Craftsbury Chamber Payers concert this Wednesday features pieces written for the salons and small private "musicales" of the early 19th century. The program begins with compositions Franz Schubert wrote for the salons of Vienna, which became known as "Schubertiades." "Fantasy in F minor for Piano Four Hands" (1828) combines classical sonata structure with a Romantic-era tone poem. Schubert's "Sonatina in A minor for Violin and Piano" (1816) shows his mastery of composition at age 19 and his intimate knowledge of both instruments. The program concludes with Fanny Mendelssohn's Piano Trio in D minor (1846-7), written for her sister's birthday and first performed at one of the many private Sunday "musicales" hosted by her family in Berlin.
The concert takes place Wednesday, August 7th, at 7:30 PM, at the Elley-Long Music Center, Saint Michael's College, Colchester. There will be a pre-concert chat at 6:45 PM. The concert will be repeated on Thursday, August 8th, at the Hardwick Town House in Hardwick at 7:30 PM.
