Hi Charlotte Democrats
Charlotte has spots for 12 Justices of the Peace on the ballot in November. By state law, we have to nominate and submit the named of those nominated candidates this month.
This is a reminder that on Wednesday, August 7 at 6:30 pm at Town Hall on Ferry Road, we will be holding our nominating caucus. If you're interested in dipping your toe into local politics and civic engagement, this is a great place to start!
In order to run for Justice of the Peace, candidates must be nominated at the meeting on Wednesday. Fun fact: you can nominate yourself! The requirements are simple: candidates need to be 18 years of age or older;
candidates must be a resident of the town where they are running; and candidates must agree to run as Democrats.
Justices of the Peace act as local elections officials, hear tax abatements and assessments, administer oaths, and can perform marriages.
