Saturdays in the Barn Workshops:
Genealogical Research and Indigo Dyeing

The Cambridge Historical Society and Museum announces two upcoming barn workshops.

August 10, 1-4pm—(Re)Searching Your Family's Past. Using online resources and original resource material from the Cambridge Historical Museum Archives, Carolynn Duffy will teach you the skills of a genealogical researcher. Knowing the questions to ask, as well as where to find the answers, can help you complete the family portrait of your past. There will be some fun pre-work (you will receive a form to complete) that will help you get to know your family better. Learn about what questions you might ask, and where you might search for the answers. Snacks will be provided. $10-$45 per person.

September 14, 10am-2pm—Indigo Dyeing: Bringing the Sky Down. Experience the miracle of blue, with Susannah White. Indigo is an organic compound with a distinctive blue color. Explore the traditions and techniques of indigo dyeing, examine the Museum's own collection of local textiles that feature deep indigo as their primary color, then learn to dye with indigo yourself with (hopefully!) fresh, locally grown Japanese indigo, as well as from powdered indigo. Bring a square yard of washed cotton fabric with you. Some fabric samples will also be available. Bring a sandwich. Drinks and fruit provided.

For both workshops pre-registration is required. Register at: info.cambridge.ny. museum@gmail.com.

The barn is quite rustic. Bathroom facilities are available. Dress appropriately for the weather and for physical activity.
