Saxon Hill School Seeking New Space, and Time to Find It

Past event
Nov 13, 2014

Saxon Hill School has been a Jericho institution for 50 years, bringing high-quality, play-based learning to generations of Jericho preschoolers. As a co-op school, it has also engaged students' families, including mine, in their child's development. For the past 29 years we have been located by the Red Mill and Old Mill Park, in a lovely building owned by Jericho Historical Society. JHS has recently notified us that it will be terminating our lease at the end of this school year. Unfortunately, this timing has the potential to put our school's financial health in serious jeopardy, as we must begin enrolling students in January and rely on our popular summer camps to generate much-needed income.

I'm writing to share this information with my fellow townspeople and ask for your help in two areas. One, if you have any leads or ideas for a new space for Saxon Hill School, please be in touch! We are hoping to use this move as a way to offer more services, such as a potential full-day program, to better serve Jericho children. We hope to buy a building but will consider lease options. And Second, please join our community in encouraging JHS to work with us to extend our lease for one more year, so we have the time to locate and prepare a new space in a thoughtful and intentional way. We will be attending a JHS meeting this Thursday, November 13 and welcome community support. We know JHS members value the historic legacy of SHS as well as its contribution to our town's future, and want to see our school succeed. I'll post a time and place for this meeting soon, or be in touch with any questions. Thank you.
