Join us Friday, August 2nd - for the opening reception for "Watercolor Diary: Three Years in Vermont", an exhibit from artist Anna Yakubovskaya of St. Johnsbury. VNRC is proud to display Anna's work as part of Montpelier Art Work, and we hope many of you will pop in between 4:30 and 7:30 pm to view the exhibit, talk to the artist, enjoy some light refreshments (including home baked goods), and maybe even buy a few prints (as always, 100% of proceeds go to the artist).

Anna's vibrant watercolor and silk paintings represent an exploration and celebration of her journey as a new Vermonter. Originally from St. Petersburg, Russia, Anna moved to the United States in 1997, and found her way to St. Johnsbury in 2021. Her work captures the essence of our unique Vermont landscapes and cityscapes - and includes a few depictions of Montpelier itself.

Anna will be on site to discuss her methods and inspiration. As she writes: "Today, I mainly work in two mediums—watercolor and silk painting. These techniques resemble each other in that they both require a certain fearlessness, as well as a trust for the material, in order to strike a balance between the intentional and the spontaneous. Exploring one often helps me find a new freedom, or lightness, in the other...I still wonder why exactly I create—what my mission is, if I even must have one? Today I would say that it is not necessarily to create beauty, but rather to capture, draw attention to, or translate in my own way the abundance of beauty that is around us. It is what nourishes me, and hopefully touches others."

"Watercolor Diary: Three Years in Vermont" will be on display at VNRC's offices through October. Additional visiting hours for the exhibit can be found on VNRC's website, http://www.vnrc.org, or by appointment (802-223-2328 x126).
