Join the Newport Department of Health & other community partners for a FREE one-hour screening of the HBO series 'Weight of the Nation.' The show will be begin at 10AM on Saturday, September 14th at the Waterfront Cinemas right here in Newport. We invite everyone in our community to attend this event to examine the myths & facts of nutrition, obesity, and physical activity. The movie explores our national obesity epidemic and will help us apply the challenges and possible solutions to our local community. Since 2002, the Newport Health Service Area (HSA) data has shown an upward trend in the percent of adults (20+) who are obese, equaling 31% of the population, the highest in the state (BRFSS). We would like to bring the community together to start a conversation about our future!

The film is an hour long and will be followed by a community-driven discussion. During the film, we will have childcare provided in the form of a story walk on the boardwalk and possibly through the community gardens. All kids present will receive a FREE My Plate educational (and useable) dinner plate, as well as a jump rope for activity. The Lunchbox will be at the event serving up a yummy snack as well, free to people at the event. NCH will also have a table set up and will be providing guidance on the new VT Health Connect system.

This is a great opportunity to get involved and help confront our national and local obesity epidemic. Lets start the discussion!
