Come celebrate a very special day in the Tucker Mountain Town Forest. On August 3rd from 10:00 - 2:00, the Friends of Tucker Mountain and the Newbury Historical Society will host ABENAKI DAY. Learn about the People of the Dawn Land who lived here for thousands of years before the arrival of European settlers. Appreciate Native Americans' sacred connections to the land and forests. Join a speaking circle with Abenaki chiefs; experience drumming; sample some Abenaki foods; learn about bead craft; watch as fire is started from flint; see traditional pit cooking; visit a bark wigwam; enjoy live music when Abenaki singer/songwriter Bryan Blanchette gives a performance at 11:00; and more. Lots of fun for all ages.

Bring friends, family, a blanket or chairs, and a picnic lunch.

The celebration is in a meadow next to the East Parking Area of the Tucker Mountain Town Forest (1576 Tucker Mountain Road, West Newbury).
