The Craftsbury Chamber Players' 4th concert of the summer series explores music composed between 1922 and 1927, with influences of American jazz, blues and folk music. The concert opens with Maurice Ravel's Sonata #2 for violin and piano, followed by a Duo for Violin and Cello written in 1925 by Czech composer Edwin Schulhoff, which incorporates jazz rhythms and Czech folk music. Part II begins with George Gershwin's 3 Preludes arranged for string quartet, which embraces the musical influences of immigrants in New York City in the 1920s--Brazillian, Spanish and African-American blues. The finale that the players will perform was written by French composer Darius Milhaud. It is a piano quintet arranged from his orchestral score of the famous ballet "La Creation du Monde" (1927). inspired by his immersion in the Harlem scene in New York.
