Join Heartwood Trio for an original, all-ages, immersive journey through song and story - The Well Tree - at the South Newfane Schoolhouse on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at 7:00 pm. A portion of the proceeds will benefit an accessibility ramp project at the South Newfane Schoolhouse.

The Well Tree is a three-person musical, illustrated by a 'crankie' - an illuminated, papercut, hand-cranked scroll. It is an original 'singing story' about wild journeying and remembering kinship -- the tale of a young woman moving beyond the fog of isolation to meet songbirds, snails and ancient trees as she travels through these unraveling times, finding her way home. The three members of Heartwood are the actors, musicians and the crew that runs the crankie (created by papercut artist Jennifer Jones) – and the audience will be invited in to help sing pieces of the story!

Heartwood is a trio of singers and instrumentalists creating new music born from time in wild places. Marlboro College alumnus Willy Clemetson, Sarina Partridge, and Heidi Wilson first came together as a trio in 2021 during a musical intensive on Rabbit Island, a remote 91-acre island in Lake Superior where the inspiration for this musical was born!

The South Newfane Schoolhouse is located at 387 Dover Rd in South Newfane, VT 05351. Built in 1867 and activated as a one-room schoolhouse until 1952, the South Newfane Schoolhouse is a beautiful example of old Vermont architecture, and the home to the South Newfane Community Association (SNCA). The Schoolhouse is available for community use on a donation basis, and the SNCA has recently embarked on a project to build a site-appropriate ramp so that the space is easily accessible for all.

Come and let your body be filled with the magic of wild music and live storytelling! Tickets are a sliding suggested donation of $15 - $30 to be collected at the door. Limited seating available.
