The Friel Sisters in Concert
Tuesday, July 30th at 7pm
Elley-Long Music Center in Colchester, VT
The Friel Sisters, Anna, Sheila and Clare Friel are traditional musicians from Donegal in the Northwest of Ireland. Brought up in the Donegal diaspora of Glasgow, the girls have remained deeply connected to their Donegal roots, playing a mixture of music interspersed with songs in English and Irish, many from their family repertoire.
The Friel Sisters are joined by Marty Barry, guitar player and singer from Banbridge, Co Down and Cathal Ó Curráin, bouzouki player and singer from Gaoth Dobhair, near the girls family home in Donegal who was recently awarded Best Emerging Artist for 2022 at the RTÉ Folk Awards in Dublin.
The concert is a rare opportunity to see and hear this exciting group in an acoustic setting playing and singing traditional Irish music from their ancestral base in northwest Donegal. The concert is produced by Mark Sustic with support provided by the Burlington Irish Heritage Festival, Vermont Violins, the Windjammer Inn & Conference Center & friends and fans of Irish traditional music. The concert is presented in conjunction with the Tom Sustic Fund at Vermont Family Network, providing funding support for families with children in life-altering situations.
Admission is by suggested donation of $25. Reservations are recommended.
